On Wednesday, an FIR was filed against Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University located in Barabanki, following allegations of fraud and forgery. This information was confirmed by an official.
The FIR was registered at the Barabanki city police station after a complaint was lodged by the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Commission, which acts as the nodal agency under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019.
According to the complaint filed by Dinesh Kumar, the additional secretary of the commission, the university admitted students to its law program and conducted examinations for the academic sessions 2023-24 and 2024-25 without obtaining the necessary approvals from the competent authority.
The commission stated that such actions jeopardize the future of the students and violate the provisions of the Private Universities Act, 2019, along with its associated regulations. The FIR was filed following an investigation report by the Ayodhya divisional commissioner, which came after protests against the university by student groups, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on September 1.
